  2/3 of all JW's are women and what it implies

  a few weeks back, kinsman posted a link about a recent survey of religion in america which showed that 68% of all jehovah's witnesses were female, which is the highest ratio of women to men in any religion in the usa.. i believe the reason for this unbalance in adherents in favor of women comes down to two fundamental reasons.

  the first is shunning and the second is the appeal of the "family type atmosphere" that the witnesses pretend to offer.. we all know the power of shunning keeps a lot of people trapped inside the collective, and just due to the fact that women are enculturated more with having emotional bonds with others, makes it a bit tougher to leave family and friends behind.

  this doesn't mean that men don't suffer emotionally, but the general trend is more for men to suppress their feelings and damn the emotional torpedoes and go full speed ahead out of the bad dream.. this suggests to me, that if there is a major modification of the shunning policy, the largest exodus will be in the female ranks.

  What's everyone doing for Christmas?

  i'm in a quandry.. came out of the organisation a few years ago, have spend a couple of chilled out christmasses in front of the fire.

  no presents, decorations etc, no problem!

  but... my little boy is getting older and my ex-husband (my son's father and also an ex-jw) is concerned that he will miss out, just like we did as kids.. but, i am reluctant to do the whole christmas thing.

  My mother rings me up every Christmas,and on birthdays reminding me,but I feel a compulsion to punish her for the previous 20 years.
  I never send her cards, and think"You sowed, now reap'. punishing her
  for the Jdubs thing. Pathetic isnt it.
  My kid loves Christmas, so I celebrate at home for his sake,dont want his experience of normal things tainted.
  I would recommend you throw yourself into Christmas for your childrens sake,those things in your head about commercialism (in my head too)are rationalizations justifying your former witness beliefs.
  Throw them out the window.

  I Dream of the Apostate Rocks Cafe

  i had the weirdest dream last night.... it started with me taking a taxi ride in some city i had never been in before and i kept seeing these billboards which were all black and white and saying: dont go there!

  i asked the taxi driver what that was all about and he told me that this was the watchtower society telling everyone not to go to the apostate rocks cafe.. anyway, i told him to immediately take me there and i just cant believe all the people surrounding this place.

  there are like thousands and thousands of people wanting to get inside.

  Nails through Jesus wrists or palms?

  has anyone noticed, in the recent drawings (1990) of jesus on the stake by the watchtower that the nails are through his wrists instead of through his hands?

  i did read something on that but i cant find where i read it, they said that his hands could not support the weight of his body so they now show the nails in his wrists.

  if you know where this explanation can be found please let me know.

  damn, that would hurt.
  Guess the witnesses have the truth on everything,against all "popular wisdom"the only ones who know he was killed on a stake, now he was nailed thru the wrist.Glad God is clarifying these things up for our edification.
  Dont you think the "passion" is overrated?
  How much sacrifice can be involved on a personal level if you know you are a)going to recieve a kingship for dying b)absolutely, positively know youre god?
  Under such circumstances I would be willing to die for the whole world.
  Not such a thing worthy of WORSHIP.
  personally think mr spocks sacrifice in "Khan"was greater.
  What thinkest YOU ?

  after i started the womens body types thread i was amazed at the variety of responses.

  and especially so to find out that many of my favorite posters are bisexual or bicurious.

  reading the posts was quite upsetting to my boy friend (tssk nice guy but a bit closed minded).

  if i'm not, i'm actually pretty shocked.... we all remember reading in the bible how israel once became rampant with sacred prostitution and the worship of phallic images.

  although there is evidence that these phallic idols were widespread, it is difficult to realize just how ubiquitous they were because of the way the texts were translated.

  What about Judges 11v 31.
  Judge Jepthah offers his daughter as a sacrifice for victory in war.
  Probably the Witness Bible nambypambies with the language, but the King James Bible describes her as "a burnt offering"!
  Made to Jah.
  It doesnt say anything about her "virginity" being sacrificed to Gods service.
  Surely a "burnt offering" can mean only one thing.
